1909 – First men to Reach The North Pole. Explorers Robert E. Peary and Matthew A. Henson claim to became the first men to reach the North Pole
1930 – Hostess Twinkies invented by bakery executive James Dewar
1931 – “A Connecticut Yankee” film based on novel by Mark Twain, directed by David Butler, starring Will Rogers is released
1931 – The first late afternoon radio serial for children ( Little Orphan Annie ) is transmitted
1938 – Teflon invented by Roy J. Plunkett
1941 – Bob Hope gives his first USO show at California’s March Field.
1980 – Post It Notes introduced to the U.S. market
1994 – The Channel Tunnel linking England to France is officially opened
2009 – “Star Trek” film reboot directed by J.J. Abrams, starring Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto premieres in Austin, Texas
