[Movie News] In Theaters This Week – May 10, 2019

This weekend brings a veritable potpourri of films for movie-goers to choose from. Two different biopics, two documentaries, a comedy starring Anne Hathaway and Rebel Wilson, a comedy about retirees who for a cheerleading squad, the story of three women involved in the Manson murders and, of course, Detective Pikachu. There truly is something for just about everyone, so I hope that you take advantage of all the offerings!

All Is True (PG-13)

A look at the final days in the life of renowned playwright William Shakespeare.

Pokemon Detective Pikachu (PG)

The story begins when ace detective Harry Goodman goes mysteriously missing, prompting his 21-year-old son Tim to find out what happened. Aiding in the investigation is Harry’s former Pokémon partner, Detective Pikachu: a hilariously wise-cracking, adorable super-sleuth who is a puzzlement even to himself. Finding that they are uniquely equipped to communicate with one another, Tim and Pikachu join forces on a thrilling adventure to unravel the tangled mystery. Chasing clues together through the neon-lit streets of Ryme City–a sprawling, modern metropolis where humans and Pokémon live side by side in a hyper-realistic live-action world–they encounter a diverse cast of Pokémon characters and uncover a shocking plot that could destroy this peaceful co-existence and threaten the whole Pokémon universe.

The Silence of Others

The Silence of Others reveals the epic struggle of victims of Spain’s 40-year dictatorship under General Franco, who continue to seek justice to this day. Filmed over six years, the film follows the survivors as they organize the groundbreaking ‘Argentine Lawsuit’ and fight a state-imposed amnesia of crimes against humanity, and explores a country still divided four decades into democracy.

Tolkien (PG-13)

Tolkien explores the formative years of the orphaned author as he finds friendship, love and artistic inspiration among a group of fellow outcasts at school. This takes him into the outbreak of World War I, which threatens to tear the “fellowship” apart. All of these experiences would inspire Tolkien to write his famous Middle-Earth novels.
