Comic conventions are no longer solely for comic book lovers, as they are now aimed at pop culture fans from across the world. Whether you love superheroes, movies, gaming, or TV shows, there are many comic conventions held annually across the United States.

Each event provides its visitors with an opportunity to dress up, meet their favorite stars, and buy unique merchandise. But if you want to ensure you never miss one superb event, here are the best comic cons in North America.

CCI (San Diego Comic-Con International) – San Diego, California

CCI, often referred to as Comic-Con or SDCC, is undoubtedly the biggest and best comic convention, not only in America but across the globe. The world-famous annual event is known for bringing together the worlds of comic books, movies, cosplay, and video games, which is why it garners attention from culture vultures from all walks of life.

Originally launching in 1970, CCI now welcomes more than 200,000 people each year, who will have an opportunity to hear the biggest industry announcements before anyone else, watch an exclusive movie and game previews, as well as attend panels formed from either blockbuster actors or notable figures.

The 2019 Comic-Con International is scheduled to take place from July 18–21, 2019.

Once here, you can expect a variety of comic book guests, roundtable discussions, panels, and workshops. The festival also offers both tabletop and electronic gaming tournaments, and you are free to explore a large mall filled with merchandise, comic books and swag from the world of comics, gaming, movies, anime, and sports.

FanX Salt Lake Comic Convention – Salt Lake City, Utah

FanX Salt Lake Comic Convention, formerly known as Salt Lake Comic Con, is a bi-annual event that attracts more than 100,000 fans from across the world, who attend the convention for a chance to meet various big-name stars, such as Christopher Lloyd (Back to the Future), William Shatner (Captain Kirk) and Val Kilmer (Batman).

Whether you love science fiction or fantasy movies, this is one event you will not want to miss. You will be able to take your pick from photo opportunities with your favorite stars, sit in on panels, enjoy parties with world-respected authors and artists, as well as attend exclusive screenings.

BlizzCon – Anaheim, California

BlizzCon is an annual gaming convention held by Blizzard Entertainment to celebrate its major video gaming franchises, such as Warcraft, Diablo, StarCraft, Overwatch, Hearthstone and Heroes of the Storm.

In 2018, 40,000 visitors attended the annual convention, and the numbers will reportedly be the same on the next event, which will take place November 2, 2019. It’s the ultimate convention for those who want to be the first to know about the biggest announcements in the gaming industry.

The closing event is also one not to miss, as many world-famous musical acts have taken to the stage in the past, such as the Foo Fighters, Metallica, Linkin Park, Blink-182, Muse, and Ozzy Osbourne.

The ticket price, which costs $199, also includes a goodie bag filled with in-game prizes, exclusive Blizzard paraphernalia, and the beta keys for various upcoming Blizzard games.

Emily Expo Events – Across Canada

The best conventions in North America aren’t limited to the United States, as you can attend a series of four Emily Expo events, a celebration of entertainment and science fiction, from Calgary to as far as Saskatoon.

Some of the biggest names in TV have appeared at the convention in the past, such as Peter Capaldi (Doctor Who), Kristian Nairn (Hodorfrom Game of Thrones), Billy Dee Williams(Star Wars’ Lando Calrissian), John Cusack and the late, great Stan Lee. Many famous figures often attend the event to participate in a meet and greet, Q&As, and photo opportunities.

Dragon Con – Atlanta, Georgia

Fans of every comic niche, genre, and subculture will want to attend Dragon Con this Labor Day weekend (August 29th to September 2nd in 2019). It is the largest multimedia, popular culture convention in Atlanta, Georgia, and focuses primarily on science fiction, fantasy, gaming, literature, gaming, film, and music.

Once again, 75,000 superfans will reportedly attend the popular event, which this year, will welcome Timothy Zahn (the author of 12 Star Wars books), Thomas E. Sniegoski (New York Times bestselling author), Jorge Molina (a Mexican comic artist), and Ed Brisson (a comic book writer), plus more.

The convention has been delighting fans since 1987, and past attendees have been treated to appearances by world-famous figures and celebrities, such as author Ray Bradbury, wrestler Rowdy Roddy Piper, actors George Takei and William Shatner and comic book icons Jim Steranko, Stan Lee, and Neal Adams.
