If you grew up in the ’90’s, you likely remember the CGI-animated show ReBoot. The series followed the extraordinary adventures of life within a computer, where a guardian program sprite and his friends defended the system from the threat of viruses. While it sometimes got a little silly, the show was a cult hit and had many fans.
The new series will mix live-action and animation, centering around four teenagers who attend “the most tech-progressive high school in the city”. They are selected to be the next generation of guardians of cyberspace, guided by VERA, an AI who has a body in the real world. The new series seems to be making it own way, as the four main characters power-up in a way reminiscent of Power Rangers.
While the trailer shows that the villain Megabyte is reactivated, there is no mention of Bob, Enzo, or Dot Matrix from the original series. Only time will tell if we ever find our what happened to the heroes when ReBoot ended on a cliffhanger.
Reboot: The Guardian Code premieres March 30 on Netflix.
