Convention Watch: Sundial Bridge Comic Con – Redding, CA (May 20-21)

PopCultHQ will be on hand for the 1st Annual Sundial Bridge Comic Con at the Holiday Inn Hotel Redding (CA), May 20-21, 2017! Here’s your look at some of the guests appearing this weekend in northern California for this sure-to-be hit two-day convention!

Garrett Gunn

Redding, CA’s own Garrett Gunn will be at the Sundial Bridge Comic Con selling his comics and doing signings. Garrett is an American independent comic book writer. He’s created and written three successful series; his recent is The Derogatory Tales of Franklin and Ghost, was just successfully funded on Kickstarter, and the other two being published by popular independent publisher, Alterna Comics. These include Go West and The Fear Diaries: Rise of The Dark Mistress. Garrett lives in Northern California with his wife and two kids.

The Living Corpse Crew: Buz Hasson, Ken Haeser, and Blair Smith

Buz and Ken are the co-creators and artists on their creator-owned book “The Living Corpse” published by Dynamite Entertainment.

Their work has graced many comic covers on such titles as Army of Darkness/Hack:Slash, Grumpy Cat, Turok, Vampirella, Magnus Robot Fighter, Evil Ernie, Batman/TMNT, Twilight Zone, Stargate: Atlantis, and Hatchet.

Outside of comics they’ve worked on The Amazing Adventures of the Living Corpse, an animated film based on their comic and recently co-created with Gabriel Campisi another comic film adaption Little Dead Rotting Hood (from the producers The Asylum, Sharknado, Znation).

Buz and Ken are avid fans of the genre and continue to create new art for upcoming comics and film. Be sure to check out to follow their newest release The Living Corpse: Relics from their recent Kickstarter, as well as additional upcoming projects and/or appearances.

Buz Hasson

Buz is a full-time tattoo artist at Seance Tattoo Parlor in Bensalem, Pa. He is the Co-Creator/Artist of “The Living Corpse” comic and film “The Adventures of The Living Corpse,” Cover Artist for Dynamite Entertainment, Comic Book artist on Asylum Films feature “JailBait,” creature designer and cover artist for Traplight Media. Buz is a ’96 graduate of the Joe Blasco School for Professional Make-up Fx, former makeup fx artist for Universal Studios and Maestro Fx and worked on such films as “Sum of Fears”, “$la$her$” in Quebec, Canada. He has over 14 years professional tattooing experience and has been featured in Rebel Ink magazine Sept/Oct 2012.


Ken Haeser

Ken’s original sketch cover work can be seen regularly at Ken is a graduate of the esteemed Joe Kubert School of Cartoon and Graphic Art. He has worked on such comics as The Eyes of Asia from Digital Webbing, Jailbait from Asylum Films based on the movie and My Little Phony: A Brony Adventure from Dynamite. He is also the co-creator of the Ghastly and Comic Monster nominated comic, The Living Corpse and worked on character designs for The Amazing Adventures of The Living Corpse movie from Shoreline Entertainment and Anchor Bay. He is currently working on the next Living Corpse mini series, the new Grumpy Cat comic and doing covers for many of Dynamite’s titles including Army of Darkness, Vampirella, Six Million Dollar Man, Flash Gordon, Turok, Solar, Magnus, Doctor Spektor, Chaos, Evil Ernie, Battlestar Galactica, Bad Ass, Twilight Zone, Back to the Future and many others.


Blair Smith

Blair Smith’s illustrations have appeared in Image comics, Zenescope Comics and Dynamite Entertainment. First influenced by his mother and grandmother’s creativity, he followed his love of the arts to college. He graduated valedictorian of illustration at the Art Institute of Philadelphia in 1990, receiving an Associates Degree in Illustration. He has been employed as a Creative Director for over a decade in the Sign Industry, creating environmental & commercial designs for one of the largest sign companies on the east coast. Meanwhile, his freelance illustrations have appeared in Image Comics’ Tales of the Starlight Drive In, which won for the treasured BEST GRAPHIC NOVEL OF THE YEAR award in the 2009 Comics Buyer’s Guide Annual Fan Awards!

Chris Marrinan

Chris is a NorCal native who has been apart of the Marvel and D.C. creative teams penciling such awesome comics as Nova, Wonder Woman, JSA Batman as well as an Independent comic artist.

Chris will be on hand selling art and signing comics. we are so pleased to have him join us this year.


Norcal Nerd

a.k.a: Deadpool

He will be interacting, taking pics, and a Judge for the cosplay contest on Sunday, May 21, 2017. He has previously won: Redding Comic-Con 2015 1st place and Crowd Favorite at Jolly Giant-Con 2016, as well as 1st place at Orocon 2016 Crowd favorite!! We think he rules and so will you!!

Darkfire Cosplay
She will be one of our guest Judges for the Cosplay contest on Sunday, May 21, 2017. She has previously won: Blizzcon 2015 honorable mention, Jolly Giant con 3rd place and Lolita/Couture fashion model for the Doll Life and Tokyo status.
Jay Underwood
Mr. Underwood is best known for his role as autistic Eric Gibb in The Boy Who Could Fly, and also starred as Chip Carson in Not Quite Human and Still Not Quite Human with Alan Thicke, as well as featured and starring roles in Uncle Buck, The Fantastic Four, The Invisible Kid, Desert Bloom, and Stalked. On television, he had a recurring role as Ernest Hemingway in The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles and has guest starred on series such as Milleniumand The West Wing and recently appeared in the biopic And the Beat Goes On. Mr Underwood also appeared in Good Shepherd as Crewman Mortimer.

Ethen Beavers

Ethen lives in Central California and has been working in Children’s Books, Comics and Animation for over ten years. He works traditionally and digitally on a variety of projects in many different styles and thematic tones. His credits include Star Wars, Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Indiana Jones, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Ben 10, Justice League Unlimited, Teen Titans Go, Legion Of Superheroes, Dexter’s Laboratory, and Samurai Jack. He also illustrated several DC Superfriends Little Golden Books, as well as the New York Times Bestselling series NERDS

Join us for family fun with Artists, Comic Con vendors, Comics, Toys, Artwork, Cosplay Competition, and Raffles. Storm Trooper Ranch and Deadpool will be there too! The event will be held May 20-21st, 2017 at the Holiday Inn located at 1900 Hilltop Drive, in Redding, CA.

2. Tickets CAN be purchased at the door for $10 each day.

4. HOURS are 10:00 am to 5:00 pm Saturday and Sunday.

5. VIP/Platinum ticket holders will be allowed in at 9:30 both days.

  1. I met a guy at the Comic Con who wanted me to join him at the Anderson Renissance Pleasure Faire this summer. Unfortunately i lost the paper he gave me. Does anyone know what his his name was. Thank you.
