Earlier this week, a select group of journalists were invited to Marvel studios for a few sneak peeks at their upcoming films Black Panther, Captain Marvel, Ant-Man and the Wasp and Thor: Ragnarok. Thanks to Hollywood Reporter and writer Aaron Couch we can share what those journalists saw.
Black Panther (February 16, 2018)
The journalists were treated to several rough shots including bare-chested shots of T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman) during his coronation. There was also a strong focus on the Dora Milaje, the female bodyguards played by Lupita Nyong’o and Danai Gurira, suggesting that they have a prominent role. One scene is depicted with Nakia (Lupita Nyong’o) taking out a group of armed mercenaries. Journalists were also shown a scene where Civil War’s terrorism czar Everett K. Ross (Martin Freeman) banters with Avengers villain Ulysses Klaue (Andy Serkis).
“Well, you brought quite the entourage, do you have a mixtape coming out?” Ross snarks with Klaue quipping back: “Oh yeah, I’ll actually send you the link!”
Ant-Man and the Wasp (July 6, 2018)
Journalists were shown concept art depicting a tiny Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) using common every day items such as a plastic soda bottle. There was one image of a dog holding a car full of people in it’s jaws and several images of new suits for Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) and Wasp (Evangeline Lilly).
When asked about the suits, director Peyton Reed noted that the original suit was intentionally made to look old-school like Hank Pym’s (Michael Douglas) technology was a little outdated. Ant-Man got an upgrade in Captain America: Civil War and will be getting another upgrade in the upcoming movie.
Thor: Ragnarok (November 3, 2017)
Director Taika Waititi revealed a surprise casting in the Thor:Ragnarok movie. The director himself, Taika Waititi, will be playing the role of Korg a gladiator known from the Planet Hulk comic book storyline.
After the reveal journalists were shown a scene where Thor (Chris Hemsworth) is put into a prison with fellow gladiators Korg(Taika Waititi), a large, rock-like character, and Miek, an insect-like alien. Thor informs the pair he’s there to fight the Grandmaster’s (Jeff Goldblum) champion which we all know is the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo)
Captain Marvel (March 8, 2019) and Avengers: Infinity War (May 4, 2018)
While at the studio, the invited guests didn’t get to see too much on these movies, but they did get to see a mock-up of the new Captain Marvel (Brie Larson), and Thanos'(Josh Brolin) Avengers: Infinity War costume.
