Jupiter Jet
Spread the love

A girl with a jetpack.
Her genius brother.
The villain who hunts them.

And a mystery…

Welcome to another edition of PopCultHQ’s Kickstarter Spotlight!

Our intent is to help raise awareness of Kickstarter campaigns by indie creators of ones we feel you should be aware, hot titles or issues to watch, or ones WE support and think YOU should too! From unknown publishers to creators with tenure…doesn’t matter! This is about helping promote the creators involved and their vision.

Today, PopCultHQ has the privilege in sharing with you a recently-launched Kickstarter campaign from Jason Inman and Ashley Victoria Robinson that in less than a week is already over 90% funded! Launched on January 18th, this exciting miniseries beautifully integrates a fun sci-fi component into a 1935 period piece which all ages will enjoy! Get ready for…

Welcome to Jupiter Jet, a 5 issue all-ages comic book series written by the husband and wife team of DC All-AccessJason Inman and Top Cow Head Editor Ashley Victoria Robinson, art by Ben Matsuya (Midnight Massacre, Criminal Macabre) and will be published by Action Lab Entertainment.

**Hey friend, don’t forget to fly all the way to the bottom of the project. We have some cool rewards from some of the biggest names in comics! Heard of CULLEN BUNN? Of course, you have! NICOLA SCOTT and TIM SEELEY? How do those creators strike your fancy? Well, they all wanna see JUPITER JET come to life! Don’t let them down!

Jacky and her brother, Chuck

Jupiter Jet is the story of Jacqueline “Jacky” Johnson, a sixteen-year-old girl who rides the sky on an experimental jetpack that she discovered in her dead father’s workshop and she does what any other teenage girl would do. Steal from the rich and give to the poor while keeping her neighborhood safe! Plus she’ll be facing ray guns, robots and men with glowing eyes!

As the mysterious flying girl, Jacky has been stealing money from the mob for weeks to provide for her little brother, pay their rent and help support the people of their neighborhood, Olympic Heights.

After one of her heists, Jacky discovers that she has accidentally stolen an experimental device from the mob. A device very similar to the power source of her jetpack. Now, she’ll have to avoid the mob, the corrupt police and a mysterious man named Pluto Patriarch to keep her brother safe. Jacky’s world is about the be cracked wide open in Jupiter Jet!

Pluto, the villain of Jupiter Jet

This comic was created after Robinson came up with the title and Inman came up with the series twist ending (Ah! Ah! Ah! We’re not giving that away here!), as the kind of comic story they both would have liked to read in comics growing up. Matsuya came onto the project as a fan, initially, and has brought the cast and crew to life in stunning lines. The melding of an all-ages period piece and a science fiction story was a tale that Inman and Robinson have been dying to create!

But did you know? The first issue of Jupiter Jet is already COMPLETE! Story, art, colors, letters and adventure are on the page and ready to go! We are looking to fund the production costs associated with making issues #2 – #5 so we can get them to you As Soon As Possible! But since this book is 100% creator-owned, there’s no publisher’s financing. Our Kickstarter goal is enough to bridge the gap! So if you enjoyed our past work (Red Shirt Diaries, IF Anthology), support creator-owned comics, and want to see JUPITER JET become a reality, we have some great rewards for you. And remember: you’re only charged if we make our funding goal.

Ben Matsuya is an illustrator and graphic artist, but above all, a storyteller. Born and raised in Southern California, Ben has been heavily influenced by the unique community and amalgamation of subcultures. He graduated from Cal State Fullerton with a BFA in Illustration and won acclaim as a finalist in the 2009 Walt Disney Imaginations Competition. His art has been featured in a variety of settings: from live theater and mobile apps, to animation and comic books – however, his main passion is character based storytelling and the comic book medium. Priding himself on his work ethic and versatility, Ben aims to uncover the soul and story of each new project with his collaborators.
