The Ghost in The Shell Original Anime Returning to Theaters for two-days

There has been a lot of controversy over the casting of Scarlett Johansson as the lead for the live-action adaptation of “Ghost in the Shell.”  A lot of people (primarily in North America) were upset that Johansson was cast as Major Matoko Kusanagi, as it is obviously an Asian character, and Ms. Johansson is obviously not Asian.

(Authors Note: Though interestingly enough the controversy doesn’t extend to Japan where they have the most right to be offended – see: Hollywood Reporter )

The show is about agent Major Motoko Kusanagi, a human-cyborg hybrid, as she chases down a mysterious computer hacker/virus known as The Puppet Master who is capable of infiltrating human hosts.

But, all of that aside…there is good news as Lionsgate and Funimation Films have announced that Mamoru Oshii’s 1995 anime “Ghost in the Shell” will play at 110 theaters across the U.S. Unfortunately, it will only be for two days, Feb. 7 and 8.

Better clear your calendar and find a theater near you.
