This week on The Flash, we got back to the action-filled episodes we are used to, complete with a token freak of the week (Shade), Alchemy insight, and secrets revealed. The entire episode was a nail-biter from start to finish.
WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD
Episode six centered around three things:
- Wally’s transition into Kid Flash
- Caitlin’s secret regarding her powers
- Dr. Alchemy’s appearance
The episode started with Wally sharing with Joe that he has been having dreams the last few nights of being a speedster. All of the dreams were positive; Wally finds himself helping others and being Kid Flash. Immediately, Joe, Barry and Iris are alarmed that Alchemy is behind it and that they need to be careful. Wally doesn’t want to believe this at first and accuses Joe of not trusting him. When Joe doesn’t respond, Wally storms out and goes MIA for a while. After trying to get ahold of Wally all day, he shows up at the precinct. Joe explains why he’s skeptical of these dreams they agree to go to the lab. However, before they can get there, he has another memory flash but this one was not positive…it was Kid Flash fighting Rival and getting hurt. Upon getting to the lab they all agree, after HR’s suggestion, to put Wally in the pipeline to keep Alchemy from getting to him.
Unfortunately, this doesn’t work, the visions get stronger and start to hurt Wally, until Iris opens the cell and he tries to leave. Iris pulls a Mike Tyson and knocks him out and puts him back in the cell. Once the rest of the team returned, they decided to let Wally go to Alchemy because they were fearful the pain he was in would kill him. Joe takes no chances and asks the police force, as well as The Flash, to go accompany him to make sure nothing bad happens. Once again, Barry underestimates a villain and gets his butt kicked. He always rushes into something, gets his butt kicked and THEN realizes they need a better plan. This is super frustrating considering what has happened with Reverse Flash and Zoom.
As Wally walks into the creepy warehouse, flanked by police, Joe, and The Flash, we got the sense that this was all going to go terribly wrong…and it does. Initially, Wally plays along with Alchemy. Alchemy asks Wally, “Do you wish for the life that was taken from you?” and Wally basically says he wishes they would all get caught (Alchemy AND his merry band of hooded of weirdos). The Flash comes in and Alchemy starts shooting a blue light (which seems to come from a mirror) at The Flash multiple times. Finally, Barry seems to have caught Alchemy and has him surrender after Joe shot him. Barry basically says that it’s over and Alchemy says “you have no idea what is about to begin.”
At that point, Alchemy bows down and Barry notices a Blue streak zooming around the room that no one else can see. While Barry is fighting the blue streak, Wally starts staring at the black rock and Alchemy encourages him to take it. Both Joe and Barry notice this at the same time, but it was too late and Wally grabbed it and went into a husk cocoon. At the same time, the streak starts taking out the police officers and reveals itself by grabbing Barry and saying he is Savitar.
Before we start talking about Savitar, we gotta give props to The CW’s CGI once again. Savitar look amazing and the speed lightning just keeps getting better every season. They continue to be the best at CGI on all of TV and they deserve some props!
As you may or may not know, Savitar is a speedster who has a group of followers that worship him. It is obvious from Alchemy’s kneeling and the group of hooded weirdos Alchemy hangs with, these are probably his followers. In the comics, he has the ability to steal speed and with the episode ending with him holding Barry and Kid Flash in a husk, we have to wonder if we will see a Barry without speed again or if this won’t play into Savitar’s character on the show. Either way, we are psyched to see how Savitar will shake things up. We couldn’t help but wonder if all of what Alchemy and Savitar are doing is just to correct the anomalies created by Barry in Flashpoint. So far, everything which Alchemy has done up until this point has done exactly that, including Rival eventually dying. If all of these things hold true, the road will inevitably get harder for our heroes, even possibly mortally wounding Wally. One character anomaly that we got even more insight into this week was Killer Frost.
Aside from Wally’s issues, we had another storyline going with Caitlin and her abilities. It starts with Caitlin stealing metahuman cuffs from Cisco (which he thinks HR stole). HR’s response was classic, basically saying he didn’t have anyone to use cuffs on in this world. Eventually Caitlin FINALLY goes to Cisco and comes clean that she stole them because she has powers. She then begs Cisco to vibe her to see if she is going to become Killer Frost. When he does, we fade to a scene where Killer Frost and Vibe are fighting to the death. At first, Cisco doesn’t tell her what he saw. Eventually, while at the movies with Joe, HR and Joe’s date (about time for that too), he does tell her. What we can’t tell from the vision is who is the bad guy. The CW made it look like it was Killer Frost, but it could just as easily be Cisco who has went evil since he was in full Vibe gear in the vision as well. As of now, we are not aware of Cisco having this gear made and ready so it would seem this is going to happen in the future.
After they are all back at the lab, Cisco basically forces Caitlin to tell the team about her powers. Barry tells Caitlin that her getting her powers, Kid Flash, and Cisco’s brother’s death are his fault because of Flashpoint. You can tell she is very upset and confirms none of it happened before right when Iris interrupts them. We are confident this is how Cisco is going to find out about his brother. Whether or not it’s intentional, Caitlin now knows that Flashpoint is what causes Dante’s death and we think this will possibly lead to the creation of Vibe. Previews for next week lead us believe that Killer Frost will be in full effect and fighting the team. Will Caitlin be lost after next week or will it be just a temporary loss of control? What is for sure is that with all these changes, the team will never be the same.
Our final rating in two words is: Nail-Biter

About The Flash– After a particle accelerator causes a freak storm, CSI Investigator Barry Allen is struck by lightning and falls into a coma. Months later he awakens with the power of super speed, granting him the ability to move through Central City like an unseen guardian angel. Though initially excited by his newfound powers, Barry is shocked to discover he is not the only “meta-human” who was created in the wake of the accelerator explosion – and not everyone is using their new powers for good.
Barry partners with S.T.A.R. Labs and dedicates his life to protect the innocent. For now, only a few close friends and associates know that Barry is literally the fastest man alive, but it won’t be long before the world learns what Barry Allen has become…The Flash.
Now, in Season Two, thanks to Eddie Thawne’s sacrifice, Eobard Thawne has been defeated. But Barry was unable to prove that Thawne killed his mother, so his father remains in prison for a crime he didn’t commit. And a new ally, Jay Garrick, will arrive with news that the Singularity opened portals to an alternate Earth, with a terrifying new enemy named Zoom now on the horizon.
