Having the TV series “Supergirl” move to The CW was great in itself. The show will now be on a network that cares for their superhero properties and can now become incorporated into this shared universe (or multiverse). Then there was talk of Kara’s famous cousin, Kal-El, actually appearing on the show. During the first season, Superman made a number of appearances but was only shown in silhouettes, and of course the casual comments thrown into conversation implying the Man of Steel. Well no sooner was the studio talking about having Superman appear in the season 2 opener, that they selectedd the actor who will don the red cape.
Tyler Hoechlin (7th Heaven, Teen Wolf, Everybody Wants Some!!) will portray Clark Kent/Superman in the first two episodes of season 2. This announcement has so far been well-received given Hoechlin’s performances in prior television work, and executive producer of Supergirl, Andrew Kreisberg couldn’t be happier about the casting.
“Greg and I have wanted to work with Tyler for ages, so this worked out perfectly because Tyler is Superman,” said an excited Kreisberg. “We are so thrilled and humbled to add another amazing actor to the legacy of this iconic character.”
Surprisingly, this isn’t the first time Hoechlin has had his name tied to a superhero project. Tyler was rumored to be one of the actors in the running for the role of Bruce Wayne/Batman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which ultimately went to Ben Affleck.
Look for Hoechlin to arrive in National City and team-up with Melissa Benoist‘s Supergirl Mondays at 8pm on The CW this Fall. The Flash will air in the same timeslot on Tuesdays, Arrow on Wednesdays, and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow on Thursdays.
