Afeni Shakur, mother of the late Tupac, died late Monday evening from an apparent heart attack. The local coroner will investigate to determine the official cause.
Marin County Sheriff’s Department stated they had responded to a call of a possible cardiac arrest at Afeni’s home in Sausalito, CA at approximately 9:43PM Monday evening. Upon arriving, local police contacted paramedics and had Ms. Shakur transported to a nearby hospital. After her arrival, she was pronounced dead at 10:28PM.
Afeni Shakur was notably recognized for her philanthropic work running the Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation, which she created shortly after her son’s death in the fall of 1996.
One of the last decisions the former Black Panther made before her passing, was greenlighting a biopic on her son entitled, “All Eyez On Me,” which recently wrapped up filming.
Afeni Shakur was 69.
