The highly anticipated animated version of Alan Moore and Brian Bolland‘s Batman: The Killing Joke is in production and a new sneak peek has been released online of The Joker’s origin story. And it’s twelve minutes of awesome! In it we get to hear from director Sam Liu, producer Bruce Timm, DC’s creative director of animation Mike Carlin, and those oh-so-recognizable voices of Batman and The Joker from Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill, respectively. Plus, hear how the production team decided to include a prologue featuring Batgirl.
Batman: The Killing Joke stars Kevin Conroy as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Mark Hamill as the Joker, Ray Wise as Commissioner Gordon, and Tara Strong as Barbara Gordon/Batgirl. It is scheduled to make its debut at this year’s San Diego Comic Con, which will be held July 21st – 24th, and is said to have been given an R-rating due to the nature of Moore/Bolland’s graphic novel. The film will release shortly thereafter, likely in Summer 2016.
Storyline, according to imdb.com: As Batman hunts for the escaped Joker, the Clown Prince of Crime attacks the Gordon family to prove a diabolical point mirroring his own fall into madness.
