Google has announced “Choose Your Side,” a promotional campaign that allows users to activate Star Wars themed skins for their many Google apps. The results are best integrated with Android Wear Watches, Google Calendar, Chrome, Chromecast, Gmail, Google Maps, Google Now, Waze and YouTube—with features also adied on Inbox by Gmail, Google Translate and Google Search. There is also said to be some sort of VR experiences for Google Cardboard next week, and some other cool little bells and whistles.
Google has been shy on details, although the ones strong with the force found that in Google Maps the “Street View” icon becomes a rebel pilot if you choose the light side of the force. Additionally, the Gmail loading bar becomes a lightsaber: blue for Jedis, red for Sith.
Their blog post also revealed the creation of google.com/starwars in collaboration with Disney and Lucas Arts. In their words,
“you can choose the light or the dark side, and then watch your favorite Google apps like Gmail, Google Maps, YouTube, Chrome and many more transform to reflect your path.”
Many Bothan spies were lost brining this next information. If you type “A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away” into a Google search bar, your search page will turn into the iconic Star Wars opening sequence! Watch as the stars of the Galaxy are taken over by large scrolling yellow letters that disappear into the distance, telling the story of a time long ago, far far away.
May the force be with you!
