Announced at New York Comic Con, DC Comics and Mattel have unveiled a series of Mattel’s new line – DC SuperHero Girls – 6-inch action figure and 12-inch dolls.
The new designs are meant to tone down the sexualizing of female characters in most collectible figures, and focus more on their athleticism. Instead of a being a psychotic mass murderer, this version of Harley Quinn is a “jokester” who lives for “LOLs.” Each figure is dressed in the characters’ current DC Comics costumes
“We wanted to have this very strong, toned body, but keeping in mind that they are still in high school, so they’re not fully mature yet,” Mattel toy designer Christine Kim tells Bloomberg. “But they still look like they can save the day instead of being saved.”
Mattel’s new line of DC SuperHero Girls 6-inch action figure and 12-inch dolls will be released next spring.
