Spread the love

sequels part 1If a movie is popular and makes money then everyone wants to milk it; to reach the full potential you need sequels. Historically sequels haven’t been nearly as good as the originals, but sometimes we are surprised and they surpass the original (Aliens).

We have scoured the net and come up with a list of sequels that are currently in the works that you may not know about. This means that we will also skip the Marvel and DC universes, after all those have been covered numerous times already. I’m also going to skip anything due out later this year.

23 Jump Street

After Credits Spoofs

A sequel to the 2014 movie 22 Jump Street. Casting looks like it is already set. It looks like Channing Tatum, Jonah Hill and Sasha Clements are on the roster. Chris Miller and Phil Lord recently confirmed at Wondercon that it was still in the works. They told us that they had found a way to incorporate all of those weird sequel ideas. We still don’t have a plot or release date, but IMDB shows it being released sometime next year.

The Adventures of Tintin: Prisoners of the Sun

This sequel to the 2011 The Adventures of Tintin will be directed by Peter Jackson and should be coming out December 16, 2016.

Alice Through The Looking Glass

A sequel to Tim Burton’s 2010 Alice in Wonderland. The cast will remain the same, but James Bobin will be sitting in the directors chair. It is well into production with a scheduled release date of May 27th 2016.

Alien 5

There is no release date, but it will be directed by Neill Blomkamp, who has already talked Sigourney Weaver to return as Ripley. Early concept artwork released by Blomkamp earlier in the year shows a Ripley-queen hybrid. It could be a very interesting sequel but I don’t think we will be seeing it until at least 2017.

Allegiant – Part 1

This sequel to Divergent is due out on March 18th, 2016 and we can only assume that Part 2 will follow in 2017.

American Pie 5

This was originally supposed to come out sometime this year, but there is still not word on a date. We have a cast and a plot line, but not much else. The only clues we have to the status of this film is a comment from actress Tara Reid back in May who simply said that talks were underway.

Amityville: The Reawakening

Due out April 15th, 2016 this follows the typical Amityville script. An innocent family moves into a house not knowing its history. You know how the rest of the story goes.

Austin Powers 4

This one is merely a rumor started by Mike Myers himself.

Avatar 2

There is no working name for it yet, but the sequel to Avatar is slated for release on Christmas day in 2017 with a third and fourth due in 2018 and 2019. The date for this one has slipped a few times, but James Cameron has now confirmed that the scripts are finished and that he plans to film the movies at the same time. All of the of original main cast are currently listed as returning.

Bad Boys 3

Rumors have been circulating for a year, however there are now gaining steam. It has been confirmed that David Guggenheim has written a script and that Joe Carnahan is in talks for the director chair.

Bad Santa 2

Another sequel that seems to have been in rumors forever. In an interview in May, Doug Ellin told us that he’s supposed to start shooting the movie in either September or October, but they’re currently working on the script. So that to me means it is still up in the air.

BeetleJuice 2

After years of fans begging for it we have finally seen progress, and I’m not talking about the stupid short film from 2014. It looks like Tim Burton actually has a script and a plot line. All he needs now is a cast and film schedule.

Beverly Hills Cop 4

Over a year ago it was announced this movie would hit theaters in March 2016, however in May of this year the movie was removed from Paramount’s release schedule.

Bill & Ted 3

Both Keanu Reeves and Alex Winters want this happen, but so far that is all we’ve really gotten on it.

Blade Runner 2

This is a sequel that is definitely happening, however Ridley Scott has handed his director’s hat over to Denis Villeneuve. The script has been written and casting is supposedly in the works, with plans to bring Harrison Ford back in. Filming is expected to start in the Summer of 2016 and with the amount of special effects and post production work that this film requires, we probably won’t see if until at least 2018.blade runner

Blair Witch Project 3

Back in March Director Eduardo Sanchez said that they had been in talks with Lionsgate, but that doesn’t mean there was any progress.

The Bourne Series

In 2014 Matt Damon talked about a new movie and it looks like we will be getting two of them. One following Matt Damon’s character, Jason Bourne, and due out in 2016 and one the following year with Jeremy Renner as Aaron Cross.

Stick around for Part 2
