As a hard-core fan of all things pop culture and especially comic books, I was more than excited to go visit my very first C2E2 comic and entertainment convention. Holy comic con Batman what an amazing time was had by your PopcultHQ head geek, me…..MannysPlace!
I have personally been going to large comic conventions since 2001, including the mega event held at San Diego Comic Con. There is not much I have not seen or experienced in all the years going to Cons but this years 2015 C2E2 had my mind spinning at times, with all the craziness going on around me for three straight days! What did I experience at C2E2?! Well…..I got to see a couple get engaged in front of a comic book artist Amanda Conner! I seen the most amazing SpaceBalls #Cosplay ever but I also saw a newborn baby get autographed by a Marvel comics artist!! Now how’s that for a crazy fun time!!
Growing up around and in Chicago I was very familiar with what I might be expecting at the massive McCormick convention center with its enormous layout. Still not quite as big as SDCC in scope and overall madness but still a most impressive show indeed. Just walking the crowd you could even find yourself face to face with someone famous in the comic book or entertainment world.
As with most comic cons these days the mix of pop culture world with celebrity movie stars and TV stars were a plenty at C2E2!! From mega stars like Kevin Smith (Mallrats, Clerks), Stan Lee (Marvel comics), Sean Astin (LOTR, 50 First Dates), Jason Mewes (Jay and Silent Bob Strikes Back), Jason Momoa (Game of Thrones), Chad L. Coleman (The Walking Dead, The Wire), Hayley Atwell (Agent Carter of SHIELD), Jewel Staite (FireFly) and so many many more. C2E2 was very much more of a comic book show than what I am used to seeing from other “comic cons.” With huge comic book greats like David Mack, Humberto Ramos, David Finch, Skottie Young, Josh Blaylock, Gale Simone, Amanda Conner, Meredith Finch, Jock, Scott Snyder…..the list was really almost endless with the amount of spectacular comic book talents from all part of the industry. Even the shopping was intense with the huge amount of vendors and deals to be had over the weekend but mostly on the last day Sunday as most con-going experts wait for that day to do their massive shopping.
Along with the entertainment celebs and comic book creators there was a very big group of classic wrestlers from WWE or WCW fame. I even got to meet and interview one of my longtime heroes the legendary Sgt. Slaughter who is in the WWE Hall of Fame! Read our interview here: G.I. Joe Movies Diss Sgt. Slaughter!
From the very onset of the show the amount of spectacular #cosplay had me in awe. By the second day of C2E2 it was so out of hand I seriously had cosplay overload, it was that overwhelming! Not in a bad way at all mind you, quite the opposite of that! As I only like to take pics of the best-of-the-best in cosplay I see…..there was just so much I couldn’t even keep up with the sensory overload I was having. The sheer number of people who showed up on all three-days with such creative costumes to this years C2E2 was outstanding. Even my electronics couldn’t keep up with everything I wanted to take pics of, trust me when I say this was quite possibly the best cosplay events I had ever witness in all my long years. Speaking of Cosplay PopcultHQ got an exclusive interview with super hot cosplay model Vera Baby from VeraBaby Instagram (18 and older only). Check out all the kick ass cosplay pics I took at the bottom of this article!
But back to the main part of a comic con…….THE COMICS!!! At C2E2 ‘Artist Alley’ I was able to see many artist who I had personally met before in my con years and caught up with many of them. Along with getting to meet a lot of other great artist and comic writers I had long time admired as well but never got to meet. Then there was the meeting with the new creative team behind the graphic novel sensation “TREADWATER” which also has Chad L. Coleman involved in the book!
PopcultHQ was able to score an interview with the ‘Walking Dead’ and ‘The Wire’ actor Chad L. Coleman as well as the creative writer behind the new “Treadwater” futuristic sci-fi action thriller. There is a huge list of comic book creators I got to interview and will interview in the future for PopcultHQ! For now from C2E2 you can expect exclusive interviews with Angel Median (Marvel, Spawn), David and Meredith Finch (Wonder Woman), Josh Blaylock, Ash Maczko, (Devils Due Publication), Robbi Rodriguez (Spider Gwen artist), Humberto Ramos (Marvel artist)!
PopCultHq will have interviews from C2E2 with the creator of Cinema Sin and new author of ‘The Ables’ Jeremy Scott! An writing and literary sensation Christina L. Barr who has written 25 stories by age 25 and the new book “The Color of Gods Eyes.” And a very special interview from longtime comic book painter and artist extraordinaire that was only given to MannysPlace for PopcultHQ by the great David Michael Beck!
