Announced today by Marvel Studios at the Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo (C2E2), former WWE wrestler turned MMA fighter Phil “CM Punk” Brooks has been tapped to write a new series on Drax the Destroyer.  The comic focuses on the Guardian of the Galaxy when he’s not involved in skirmishes with Star-Lord, Rocket, Groot, and Gamora.  According to Marvel, Drax will jump from personal skirmish to the next as the Destroyer proves his mettle as the galaxy’s ultimate warrior.

Punk’s co-writer and artist have yet to be announced.  CM Punk is a huge Marvel fan and actually has some comic writing on his resume.  He wrote Marvel’s Thor Annual #1 and DC’s Startling Sports Stories.  With the addition of the Drax series, all of the individual characters from Guardians of the Galaxy have their own solo series or have one in the works.  This is in addition to the regular Guardians of the Galaxy series, Guardians 3000, and Guardians Team-Up.  Looks like the Guardians are here to stay.

  1. I hope that Drax’s personality is more in the vein of when Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning where doing the GotG series. I’m not a fan of the personality shift after the series was rebooted by Bendis and then further changing when the movie came out.
