We have over a year to go before Suicide Squad hits the big screen but it seems that this is the DC movie everyone is watching and waiting for. It seems like Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is just a prequel before we get to the good stuff.
Why are we all waiting for this one and not it’s predecessor? Because it is the unknown. Batman vs Superman is predictable. We’ve seen it before. Maybe it won’t be exactly like we anticipate but it’s a standard storyline and they can’t vary from it too much.
Suicide Squad by director David Ayer is a whole new story. In this we get our favorite villains, and not just one or two of them, we get a whole squad of them. To make it even better the film is about them. They may not be up to the usually villainous tricks against their heroic counterparts, but we still get to see them in their glory..and that is what we are waiting for.
It doesn’t help that we keep getting all of these little hints into the movie that make us salivate with anticipation.
We know that Jared Leto is playing Joker, but all we really know is that it is a Joker unlike any we have seen before. This character has been done so often and in so many different ways that it is difficult for us to see another Joker, but we are looking forward to it anyhow.
Will Smith as the anti-hero Deadshot is an interesting turn. I don’t think I have ever seen Smith play a villain, but then again he isn’t a true villain either, he just does things by his own code. Deadshot has been a key part of the Suicide Squad forever; he has his own morals and his own standards that he keeps to. Putting Deadshot in with Joker could be a very interesting and possibly volatile mix, especially when you toss in Harley Quinn played by Margot Robbie.
Other key Suicide Squad members we are seeing include Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, Joel Kinnaman as the squad leader Rick Flagg. We also know that Cara Delevingne will be the Enchantress, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor and Viola Davis will be playing the disliked Amanda Waller. The role that hasn’t been identified yet is for Jay Hernandez.
We have also been told that it looks like Joe Maganiello will be Deathstroke, and speaking of Deathstroke, we’ve gotten some nice juicy updates. It appears that Deathstroke will be an assassin hired by Onlsaught and will be encountering the Suicide Squad fairly early in the movie. Don’t worry about his role ending too soon though as we are told that he basically manages to take out the whole squad by himself. This makes me think that we will see a fair amount of him in the movie. We have also been told that Deathstroke’s outfit will look very similar to a U.S. Military tactical outfit, which make sense. He will also be keeping many of his favorite weapons such as the sword and automatics. It has also been confirmed that the iconic black and orange mask will be seen, but it seems that he will have two eyes, at least in the beginning.
The latest rumors regarding this film are that we will be seeing Doctor Strange and that Ben Affleck’s Batman will make a brief appearance. Could Hernandez be Strange?
We are also told that there may be yet another, more obscure villain. I am guessing that this will be a token villain that is killed off rather early, but it still makes me wonder who it is. One possibility for this character is the Thinker, as rumor has it that he might be showing up at some point, that same rumor has him being played by Jackie Earle Haley, best known for role as Rorschach in Watchmen and more recently for his role as Rick Mattox in Robocop.
