A Loving Memory of Norman Lee by Fellow Artist Walden Wong.

After today’s news of the authorities in the Caymans calling off the search and recovery, of long time Marvel and DC comics inker, Norman Lee was circulating the Internet. There was a tremendous outpouring of fans, fellow artists, collaborators and even very close friends sharing their very own personal meeting and thoughts on such a great person in the industry.

I personally never got to meet Mr. Lee in all my years of going to comic cons, but one of my longtime friends has. Walden Wong is a long time inker for both Marvel and DC Comics as well. Both inkers who are very well respected in the comic book industry, by not only fans but also fellow legends in the comic book world, never got to meet one another other till last year! The story Walden Wong told of this meeting and then the subsequent picture taken with the late Norman Lee along with other legends……well folks. This story brought me to tears.

I have asked Walden Wong for permission to share his beautiful story and picture with everyone in loving memory of Norman Lee. Mr. Lee, you will be so missed by so many people that you have met and even not met in person. Your life and spirit will live long….many prayers and love to the Lee family. Below is the story Walden Wong graciously allowed me to share on such a wonderful creative man.

Here’s a picture from my first time meeting Norman Lee in person, just last year HeroesCon 2014. However, the both of us had shared credits in many of the books we’ve worked on. We were sitting in the same aisle and Norman walks up to me and says.” It’s good to finally meet you in person!” Just like that, we hit it off and felt like we knew each other for years. Talking about what we’re working on, how it was a blast to ink over the same pencillers, and so on. A very kind and soft spoken person.

On the last day of the show, Norm Rapmund, Norman Lee, Scott Hanna, and myself were chatting about the convention. Then Norman Lee pulls out his camera and said “Lets get a group shot of all of us together, because this may never happen again.” With all that’s happened, that one sentence has played in my mind over and over. And each time, it tears me up. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.
