Bryan Singer is bringing one of X-Men’s more popular mutants to life in 2016’s “X-Men: Apocalypse”! Olivia Munn who was revealed by Bryan Singer, as Psylocke on the directors personal Instagram account today:
“Excited to welcome @oliviamunn as Betsy Braddock! #Psylocke #XmenApocalypse #XMEN”
Munn is known for her longtime stint on G4’s “Attack of the Show!” from 2006 to 2010 which I was a HUGE fan of! Most recently her acting roles have grown significantly with roles in “Magic Mike,” “Deliver Us From Evil” and most notably on huge hit TV series HBO’s “The Newsroom,” along with a very short cameo in “Iron Man 2.”
Olivia Munn joins the cast of fellow X-Men including James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Nicholas Hoult, Jennifer Lawrence, Evan Peters and Oscar Isaac as the main villain Apocalypse.
Betsy Braddock/Psylocke was created by long-time Uncanny X-Men scribe Chris Claremont and artist Herb Trimpe (who also drew the very first Wolverine in Hulk #180 and #181). Psylocke made her first appeared in 1976’s “Captain Britain” #8, before being introduced officially into X-Men almost a full decade later with 1986’s “New Mutants Annual” #2. Psylocke became a prominent X-Men team member, and one of the most popular characters, in the midst of the X-books’ early ’90s popularity with Jim Lee at the artist helm for Uncanny X-Men and later X-Men. Also the hugely popular X-Men cartoon from the late mid 90’s brought Psylocke and the rest of Marvel Mutants into american house hold names for all young kids of the era. Psylocke will once again be a huge fan favorite now that Olivia Munn has been cast. I don’t need mutant powers to be able to see that one happening!
“X-Men: Apocalypse” is scheduled for release on May 27, 2016.
